Making Sidewalks Safer

Our Construction Department typically “constructs” new landscapes by assessing site conditions, choosing and arranging appropriate plants, and planting them correctly. But we also specialize in more traditional construction projects.

One of the most common problems we are asked to solve is uneven concrete sidewalks that have been cracked or lifted by tree roots, creating dangerous trip hazards. One option is to demolish and re-pour the entire section of sidewalk, sometimes also cutting out a section of the tree’s roots.

Another option, far more economical, is to use a powerful tool to smooth the transition between sections. After carefully marking the area, we use a concrete grinder fitted with a vacuum attachment that keeps dust out of the air. Careful contouring results in a trip-free zone – and since the new and old surfaces differ slightly in color, the repaired area gives pedestrians a visual heads up.

If you have uneven walking surfaces on your property, contact us for a proposal to make your sidewalks safer. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
